바심 마그디는 카이로의 헬완 대학교(Helwan University)에서 회화를 전공했으며 현재 스위스 바젤을 기반으로 활동하고 있다. 마그디는 2025년 스위스 쿤스트할레 베른, 2023년 프랑스 렌(Rennes)의 FRAC Bretagne, 2022년 바르셀로나의 Fundación Antoni Tàpies, 2020년 안트베르펜의 M HKA, 2019년 리스본의 MAAT, 2016년 시카고 현대미술관, 로마의 MAXXI, 파리의 주 드 폼, 보르도의 CAPC 등 국제 주요 기관에서 소개되었다. 또한 그의 작품은 뉴욕 현대미술관(MoMA), 구겐하임 미술관, 파리 퐁피두 센터, 루이비통 재단, 런던의 도이체방크 컬렉션, 샤르자 아트 파운데이션, 카타르 도하의 마타프: 아랍 현대미술관 등 여러 공공 및 개인 컬렉션에 소장되어 있다.

Basim Magdy (b. 1977) is an artist working across film, photography, text, painting, and installation. His practice employs sharp wit in critical explorations of absurdity, creating multilateral examinations that combine historical reference, scientific discoveries, personal experiences, and dreamlike processes of imagination. By mixing documentary footage, field recordings, film photography, drawings, and more, Magdy’s work unravels the limitations of reality and questions preconceived notions of the logics, realities, and truths that structure perception.

Basim Magdy studied painting at Helwan University in Cairo, and is currently based in Basel. His work has been shown at institutions and museums including Kunsthalle Bern, Bern (2025); Frac Bretagne, Rennes (2023); Fundación Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona (2022); M HKA, Antwerp (2020); MAAT, Lisbon (2019); Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago (2016); MAXXI, Rome (2016); Jeu de Paume, Paris (2016); and CAPC Bordeaux, Bordeaux (2016). His work is held in public and private collections such as The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Guggenheim New York, New York; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; Deutsche Bank Collection, London; Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah; Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha.
