Summer Sparks II: Ignite at Frieze House Seoul
파운드리 서울은 한국 동시대 미술의 다양한 흐름과 갤러리 생태계를 조명하는 릴레이 전시 시리즈《Summer Sparks》의 두 번째 전시《Summer Sparks II: Ignite》를 통해 생명의 존재 조건을 탐구하는 두 작가, 오묘초와 도현희를 소개합니다.
오묘초는 생물학에 대한 깊은 관심과 공상과학적 상상력을 결합해 새로운 존재 조건을 탐색합니다. 작가의 조각 작업은 과학 기술의 발전과 기후 변화로 인한 대안적 미래를 상상하며, 끊임없이 변화하는 환경 속에서 생명이 견디고 적응하는 방식에 대해 사유합니다.
도현희는 지속적인 관찰과 수행적 과정을 통해 인간 경험의 비물질적 속성을 탐구합니다. 작가는 한지에 분채와 아교를 덧입히고 씻어내는 반복적 행위를 통해 감각과 기억이 축적되고 해체되는 과정을 시각화합니다. 한지의 표면은 시간의 흔적을 담아내며, 변화하는 정체성의 단면을 드러냅니다.
Foundry Seoul presents Summer Sparks, Frieze House Seoul’s relay exhibition series connecting Korean galleries and the artists they represent. The second iteration, ‘Summer Sparks II: Ignite’, runs from June 18 to July 1, 2026, featuring works by Omyo Cho and Hyunhee Doh, two artists’ reflections on the conditions of life and existence.
Omyo Cho merges biology with speculative narratives, examining new conditions of existence. Her sculptural works envision alternative futures shaped by scientific advancement and climate change, investigating life’s endurance and adaptive processes within continually shifting environments.
Hyunhee Doh approaches intangible tenets of human experience through patient observation and a performative process. By layering and washing away pigment mixed with glue, she visualizes the accumulation and dissolution of sensation and memory over time, using hanji as her medium. The paper’s materiality thus uncovers temporal formations and shifting perceptions of self, sense, and memory.
