오묘초는 1984년 서울에서 출생하여 서울을 기반으로 활동하고 있습니다. 작가는 골드스미스(Goldsmiths)에서 순수미술을 전공 후 생물학에 대한 관심을 바탕으로 공상과학소설을 집필하고 이를 조각으로 표현합니다. 작가는 신경 구조와 자연의 형상이 닮은 것에서 영감을 받아 실제로 기억 전이가 될 때 신경 세포들이 꽃이 피어나거나 열매가 맺히는 것과 같이 유기적으로 뻗어나가는 모습을 형상화합니다. 과거, 현재, 미래를 문학적 상상으로 넘나 들며 다양한 생물체들을 탐구하여 미래에 생존할 지성체들을 상상하는 작업을 선보입니다.
Omyo Cho, a Seoul-based artist born in 1984 in Seoul, studied Fine Art at Goldsmiths University of London. With an interest in biology and science, she writes science fiction and translates it into her sculptural work. Inspired by the parallels between neural structure and natural form, she incorporates these ideas into her work, visualizing neural cells organically extending like blooming flowers or bearing fruit when memories are transferred. The artist explores various life forms from different time periods and imagining intelligent beings that survive in the future.
