FOUNDRY SEOUL is pleased to present Siskatia, a solo presentation by Seoul-based artist Omyo Cho, in the Focus sector at Frieze Seoul 2026.

Combining biological inquiry with literary imagination, Cho constructs speculative narratives which she translates into sculptural form. Viewing sculpture as a four-dimensional field where multiple temporalities intersect, the artist traces how organisms and environments shape one another through adaptation, reciprocity, and transformation. Her works evoke forms that seem simultaneously ancient and yet to come—remnants of deep-sea life, future organisms, or structures still in formation—existing between creation and extinction.

For this presentation, titled Siskatia, Cho draws on a word from the language of the Yagua people of the Peruvian Amazon that refers to living beings animated by vitality. For the Yagua, life is understood not merely as a biological condition, but as a way in which beings sustain one another through continual interaction and exchange.

This understanding of life forms the foundation of the speculative ecology constructed by Cho. Embracing an attitude of care toward all forms of life, she approaches nature not as something separate from or subordinate to humanity, but as an organic relational network in constant negotiation and interaction. Here, “care” is understood not as a gesture exclusive to humanity, but as an ecological condition—a quiet process of sustaining, responding, and coexisting. By envisioning worlds beyond the present, Cho’s sculptures reveal life’s capacity to continually discover new modes of existence, regenerate, and form unexpected connections amid ever-shifting environments.

Siskatia unfolds as an immersive installation in which sculptural works emerge as fragments of a speculative ecology. The sculptures appear almost self-generated, growing not toward light but through the uncertain conditions of a world yet to come. As the boundaries between organism and environment gradually dissolve, viewers encounter the works as both living entities and evolving landscapes, entering an ecology defined by resilience rather than permanence. Together, the sculptures compose a landscape of continual becoming, reflecting life’s fragile yet persistent capacity to imagine and sustain new modes of existence.
