Jonny Negron (b. 1985) is a self-taught artist renowned for his distinct mise-en-scénes realized in bold color and rich symbology. Combining contemporary aesthetics with the mythological, Negron draws upon a long graphic history in his work, subsuming references from art history, antiquity, literary tradition, occult philosophy, and pop culture, and synthesizing them in a dimension that occurs somewhere between the symbolic realm and reality—thereby generating a tableau of allusion, iconography, and socio-political commentary. His canvases are populated by figures and objects suspended in time, their frozen narratives nurturing reflection in both the subject and the viewer. Negron currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
