서신욱은 1988년 서울 출생으로 센트럴 세인트 마틴에서 순수예술 학사를, 슬레이드 스쿨에서 조소 석사를 마친 후 현재 런던을 기반으로 활동하고 있습니다. 키네틱 작품을 통해 사회구조와 인간의 관계를 탐구하는 작가는 풍자적인 키네틱 조각과 설치 작업을 통해 동시대 사회구조와 인간의 관계를 고찰합니다. 그는 파스텔톤의 투명한 소재로 제작된 만화 같은, 일그러진 인간의 형상을 통해 억압적인 사회 구조 아래 예속되어 결국 대체되고 마는 무력한 인간의 비극적 운명을 작업을 통해 선보입니다.
Shinuk Suh was born in Seoul in 1988 and is currently based in London. After a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design, and an MFA in Sculpture from Slade School of Fine Art, The artist investigates and displays relations between social structures and the individuals through his kinetic sculptures. Suh examines the relationship between social structures and contemporaries through his satirical – almost comic – kinetic sculptures and installations. Creating cartoonish, distorted human figure sculptures with pastel-colored transparent material, he describes the tragic fate of humans under the control of the social system and eventually replaced.
