최강혁은 1986년 서울 출생으로 영국 왕립예술학교에서 남성복 디자인으로 석사를 졸업한 후 현재 서울을 기반으로 활동하고 있습니다. 손상락과 함께 디자인 듀오 강혁으로도 활동하고 있는 그는 패션 디자인, 텍스타일, 조각, 설치 등 다양한 창작물을 소개합니다. 그는 창작물을 통해 소재에 대한 탐구, 대량 생산된 인공물에 대한 동경, 지속 가능성에 대한 물음을 제시합니다. 최강혁은 에어백, 나일론, 폴리에스터 등의 산업 재료를 본래의 기능적 맥락에서 분리하여 고유의 심미성을 직관하고, 질감과 형태 그리고 디테일과 실루엣 사이의 균형적 관계를 세심하게 조율하여 고유한 아름다움이 극대화되는 균형점에 도달하는 순간까지 집요하게 탐구합니다.
Seoul-based artist, Kanghyuk Choi, received an M.A. in Menswear at the Royal College of Art, London. He is currently active in Seoul and, along with Sanglak Shon, works as part of the design duo KANGHYUK. He presents a variety of works including fashion design, textiles, sculpture, and installation. Choi investigates materiality and focuses on mass-produced artificial objects, while posing questions about sustainability. He detaches industrial materials such as airbags, nylon and polyester from their original functional contexts, and captures their own aesthetic. Adjusting texture and form, detail and silhouette, he explores until he reaches the balance which maximizes their own beauty.
